NYC - Chinatown - Canal Seafood Restaurant

Was in the mood for some congee so I decided to try this Chinese eatery along Canal Street name Canal Seafood Restaurant (Formerly known as 266 Canal Fun Corp). I ordered the Century egg and Lean Pork congee (皮蛋瘦肉粥) and on the side an order of Char Siew (叉燒) & Roast Pig (火肉). The location is great and easily spotted, the inside is big with lots of seating area however the congee was kinda disappointing as it was too watery, the char siew & roast pig was tasty but very pricey so I doubt I will be back again.Canal Seafood Restaurant

Went to New Malaysia and had the Roti Canai and Char Kway Teow which unfortunately doesn’t have ‘si hum’ (cockles) … oh well, beggars can’t be choosers … heh heh!

They have recently newly renovated the restaurant which looks really nice, no more the kampung look ... hahaha!!!

NYC – Chinatown – Chinatown Ice Cream Factory

NYC - Chinatown - Quickly

After working for 5 straight days, I was so ready for my off days on Wednesday and ThursdayPhotobucket. I got up early on Wednesday and went to get my hair done in Chinatown after which I met Anne to go jalan jalan. Since the weather has been coldPhotobucket, we decided on Shabu Shabu aka Steamboat at Quickly after seeing much good reviews on Yelp. It would be the first and last time we patronised them cos first the shabu shabu was so-so and expensive plus the service was BAD big time, they didn't even bother saying Thank You when we paid or even when we were leaving, just show the 'I dun care' look, so RUDE! YOU GUYS SUX!Photobucket

After pigging outPhotobucket, we walked around Chinatown then proceededPhotobucket to 34st in midtown Manhattan for more shopping and ended up at Lunchbox Buffet for dinner which was good, big portion and cheap for only $5!

NYC - Chinatown - New Malaysian Restaurant

I was dowtown Chinatown running some errands after which I went to have my lunch at New Malaysia Restaurant at Chinatown since I haven't been there for awhile. I had the nasi lemak and being a greedy piggy, I ordered the Beancurd with Satay Sauce which of course I couldn't finish and had to have it packed to go, it was good though ... hee hee.

NYC - Chinatown - Coluck Restaurant

Last Friday, Catie, Anne and I went to Coluck Restaurant in NYC Chinatown located in a tunnel between Elizabeth St/Bowery and Bayard St/Canal St. The shop is amongst a few eateries there which includes New Malaysia Restaurant and Yummy Noodles. Funny thing is that there is no English, and only Chinese wordings on the signboard so the best way of knowing you’ve got the right place is to look at the menu and spot the word ‘Coluck’ in the names of some dishes.

I have bypassed this eatery many times when I go to New Malaysian and Yummy Noodles but have never tried their food till Catie suggested we do since there’s good reviews of them on Yelp and Menupages. The prices are reasonable; apparently they used to be cheaper pre-renovation, it does look brighter and cleaner now after the renovation. Service was fast but don’t expect the wait staffs to be all smiley and friendly, they do what they got to do and that’s it. I did approach one of the waitresses and asked if she is from Malaysia, she finally smiled and said yes then asked when I’m from, I told her ‘Singapore’, after that she was friendly and smiled at us more … hee hee.

They serve both Asian and Western food so I guess you get the both worlds especially when you have a group of friends, they can have either one, or have them all! .. ha! Here’s what we ate:

Catie:
Black Bean Ribs on White Rice
Fried Cruller aka You Tiao

Anne and I shared:
A bowl of Shark’s Fin Soup (came with a buttered toast)
Chinese Pancake with Peking Duck
Pork & Salted Fish Rice Noodles (Mei Fun)
Stewed Oxtail on White Rice

Anne and I spent $12 each (tips included), we only liked the Chinese Pancake with Peking Duck, we felt the other dishes were so-so but we will be back again to try the other dishes and of course have the Chinese Pancake again … heh heh.

It’s a good place to hang out with friends, have drinks, snacks and chit chat away!

NYC - Chinatown - Hong Kong Station

Skin getting dry, pores getting bigger, more and more freckles, that's the condition of my face lah ... heh heh, which is why I went to get a facial in Chinatown yesterdays since I still have a package of quite a few sessions left of the basic cleansing facial. Been many months since I last went there so as usual the beautician tries to sell me a more expensive package ... blah blah blah. I told her I wouldn't mind paying more to try that for 1 session but that's it, too bad! Anyway she was good at her work, I just wish she would shut up when I tell her 'no thanks to adding more to my current package' the next time ... heh heh.

After the facial, I was feeling hungry so I walked around to see what's good and end up at Hong Kong Station which is a Chinese 'Fast-Food' eatery where you choose your own noodles @$1.50 per portion and add on toppings which had a wide selection of beef, pork, fishballs, vegetables and many others @$1 each portion, you'll definitely be spoiled for choice cos I was for sure, I wanted every item but if I did then I would have needed a wheelbarrow to take me out ... hahaha.

Here's what I had in my bowl:

Noodle - Thick Noodle aka Mee Pok $1.50

Ingredients:
Beef Stew - $1
Beef Tripe - $1
Beef Balls -$1
Mushroom - $1
Vegetables - $1

Seasonings:
Garlic Sauce
Parsley & Scallion

Along with the bowl of noodle, I also had a taro bubble tea which was $3 so my meal came up to $9.50 which is within my budget of $10 ... hee hee. Apart from noodles, they have toasts, sandwiches, desserts and wide selection of drinks.

I have bypassed this eatery many many times but never made an attempt even to try but after this 1st try, I am sure I will be back more often as it was super yummy especially the soup which was very tasty, my mouth is watering now as I type. The places is clean and neat, I saw a lady going around cleaning and cleaning, wondering if she ever stops to rest. I had a little language problem with the server, she spoke in Cantonese and I had a hard time telling her what I wanted, good thing she got a co-worker who spoke English to attend to me so that was cool, overall the staff were friendly and nice. Can't wait to take some of my friends there.

NYC - Lower Manhattan - Chinatown

On Wednesday, I dragged my sickie poo ass out of bed and went to Chinatown for lunch with my friend. I almost bailed on her cos I was feeling icky but I am glad I didn't as we had such a great day out.

My friend loves Asian food, not forgetting Asian men too ... hee hee so we decided to have lunch at Yummy Noodles where we had Vegetable Lo Mein ala Hong Kong Style, Crispy Pig and Chicken & Mushroom Claypot Rice. We spent a few hours in there eating and talking which was nice.

After lunch, she wanted something sweet so I took her to Egg Custard King Cafe for dessert, she had ice coffee, almond egg custard and cream puff while I had ice Horlicks, egg custard and a slice of green tea roll which were not too sweet and that was what I liked. We continued our chit chatting session there till early evening.

We then continued the day browsing the little Chinese stores and then went shopping at Asia Market Corporation, an Asian grocery that sells spices and packaged goods imported from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, China, Korea, and Japan.

After we went separate ways, I went for a long walk from Chinatown to Union Square, stopping now and then to snap pictures and did a little shopping. I checked out a little clothing store, Madness that had cute and nice stuff at very reasonable pricing then I went to Pearl River Mart, a Chinese American store selling all sorts of good quality Chinese goods. When I got to Union Square, I went to Trader Joe’s to get some snacks then got on the subway and made my merry way home, I was very tired but it didn't matter cos I had a really good day out.
