NYC - Trader Joe's

I have been hearing about Trader Joe's alot and finally I made it there today! YAY! I like this grocery store and have to agree with some of my friends that they do have some great stuff. It was really crowded and the lines were really long, luckily they moved really fast so that was good. The prices are very reasonable and I wanted to buy everything! ... haha! Too bad I wasn't sure how long I was gonna be downtown so I couldn't buy perishable stuff, I did end up with a bunch of snacks and some non-perishable groceries ... hee hee!

NYC - Lower Manhattan - Union Square - Trader Joe's

I always enjoy going to Trader Joe's but haven't been there for a few months till 2 nights ago, my co-worker, Terri showed me a quick way to get there on the bus from our job, it was so fast and convenient, I will for sure be frequenting more now. It was so crowded and the lines were so long but moved fast which was good. Check out all the goodies I got! Trader Joe's Rocks!!!

My Cooking - Cod Sticks and Hash Browns from Trader Joe's

Whilst at Trader Joe's, they were doing the usual food sampling and they were serving the Cod Sticks with Tartar Sauce which tasted really good. After picking up 2 boxes of the Cod Sticks, I also got 2 boxes of Hash Browns and used them for dinner on Wednesday night, simple, easy and convenient dinner ... yummy!

NYC - Momofuku and Restaurant Forte Baden Baden NY

It was a fun day out in the city with my friend, Ms A who is also a Singaporean living in New Jersey. She is another foodie like me. We like to go check out different kinds of food together, taking pictures and also shopping (she finally got her shoes today … YAY!).

Today we had our meals at Momofuku Noodle Bar (she’s been there before but it was my first time) in the East Village for lunch and Baden Baden in Koreantown for dinner. In between our long walks in the city from Union Square @14 st to Koreantown @32 st, we had a mini tea-break at Union Square Park. We were also in Trader Joe’s for abit and sampled really nice snacks and juices … hee hee.

At Momofuku Noodle Bar, we shared Steam buns with Berkshire Pork for appetizer and Tsukemen which is dipping broth, chilled noodles, shredded Berkshire Pork and poached egg. It was really crowded but we managed to get seats. The restaurant is very small, everyone sits at the counter overlooking the open concept kitchen. We like the Berkshire Pork alot, very nice taste, so delicious. One of the chefs was nice to pose for us to take a picture of him, he is so cute!

During our tea-break at Union Square Park, we shared banana / pumpkin breads and drank Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Green Tea which was very refreshing.

Along our walk, I saw a signboard that says Diet Lite Ice-Cream and went to check it out, end up getting the No Sugar Strawberry Ice Cream and bought some lottery (a girl’s gotta try her luck yea?!) … heh heh.

For dinner, we proceeded to Restaurant Forte Baden Baden NY in Koreantown. It is not easy to spot them as they are on the 2nd floor and the main sign says BBNY and not Baden Baden … grrrrrrrrrrrrr, good thing I remembered to bring the address along and managed to find them … heh heh. The restaurant is like a pub restaurant with dim lightings and loud music, there was a decent crowd and was very very noisy. It did get more crowded eventually and alot of people actually liked sitting at the bar counter. We even saw guys eating the fried chicken with chopsticks! C'mon it should be time to get our hands dirty and oily! We had the large size Baden Baden Chicken which is Fried Chicken and also onion rings. Embedded below are some vegetables like chopped onions, green & red peppers, right in the middle were some really yummy roasted garlic. The chicken skin was very crispy and tasty, some parts of the chicken was quite dry. Along with our meal, we shared a cool and refreshing beer … GULP, GULP, GULP … BURP!

NYC - Lower Manhattan - Union Square - Trader Joe's

I simply luv grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, people are nice even though is it always crowded, you hear people saying 'Excuse me', 'I'm sorry' and I don't risk getting run over by the trolleys, which is very unlike the other grocery stores I go to.

On Tuesday night, I decided to go get more fish for my packed lunch and in addition see what I ended up with! Hee hee!

My Cooking - Baked Cod Fish with Tofu

I like going to Trader Joe's for their frozen packed fishes, cheap and good.

For my packed lunch, I made Cod fish with tofu and spring onion, baked them then put them on top of brown rice and broccoli, tasty and healthy.

Haw Lok (Hot Dog) Anyone?

Ha Ha, 'Haw lok' is how some of the 'aunties' and 'uncles' in Singapore prononuce Hot Dogs, now that I am so far away from home, I just wish I can hear that anytime.

Got some Whole Wheat Hot Dog Buns from Trader Joe's, think healthy mah ... heh heh, during snack time, I opened up and saw the buns that looks funny and cute ... hee hee, they're so soft and smells really good. Threw on some Nathan's Beef Franks , very yummy!

NYC - Lower Manhattan - Chinatown

On Wednesday, I dragged my sickie poo ass out of bed and went to Chinatown for lunch with my friend. I almost bailed on her cos I was feeling icky but I am glad I didn't as we had such a great day out.

My friend loves Asian food, not forgetting Asian men too ... hee hee so we decided to have lunch at Yummy Noodles where we had Vegetable Lo Mein ala Hong Kong Style, Crispy Pig and Chicken & Mushroom Claypot Rice. We spent a few hours in there eating and talking which was nice.

After lunch, she wanted something sweet so I took her to Egg Custard King Cafe for dessert, she had ice coffee, almond egg custard and cream puff while I had ice Horlicks, egg custard and a slice of green tea roll which were not too sweet and that was what I liked. We continued our chit chatting session there till early evening.

We then continued the day browsing the little Chinese stores and then went shopping at Asia Market Corporation, an Asian grocery that sells spices and packaged goods imported from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, China, Korea, and Japan.

After we went separate ways, I went for a long walk from Chinatown to Union Square, stopping now and then to snap pictures and did a little shopping. I checked out a little clothing store, Madness that had cute and nice stuff at very reasonable pricing then I went to Pearl River Mart, a Chinese American store selling all sorts of good quality Chinese goods. When I got to Union Square, I went to Trader Joe’s to get some snacks then got on the subway and made my merry way home, I was very tired but it didn't matter cos I had a really good day out.
