After reading much good reviews about Golden Unicorn on yelp.com, my friends and I excitedly made our way there last Saturday. Maybe we had too high expectations … sigh … there were 3 of us and we each paid $13 inclusive of tipping, the dim sum was disappointing and expensive.
It was around 12pm when we got there and the place was not crowded so we were seated immediately. The ladies with the dim sum carts were anxious to throw any dishes on our table and when we told them we didn’t want those, they had an attitude and it sure showed on their faces. The guys in black coats walked around with no emotions, service was so-so, however when it came to paying, they surely picked up the bill and credit card really fast.
Here's what we ate:
Braised Duck Webs – Deliciously well-cooked dish. This is the only dish that I liked.
Braised spare ribs – Pretty good.
Clams in black bean sauce – Quite tasty.
Braised Chicken Feet (Fong Jow) – Undercooked and tasted weird.
Siew Mai – Ok dish.
Shrimp Cheong Fun – Skin was too thick and tasteless.
Har Kow – Ok I guess cos I didn’t get to taste this dish.
Lor Mai Kai (Glutinous Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf) – Rice was mushy, too salty and too little ingredient.
We didn’t order any fried stuff cos they looked like they were on the carts for quite sometime, thumbs down for the quality and freshness. Don’t think we’d be back anytime soon.
