Junk Food Day!

The hubby and I went to Harlem's AMC Magic Johnson Theater to watch 10,000 BC, I personally think it's a cool movie and liked it. As usual the hubby had his popcorn and I got the nachos ... yum yum!

I didn't feel like making dinner tonight so we had Popeyes Fried Chicken since we haven't had it for ages, it was a nice change of taste.

NYC - Harlem - Golden Krust

Whenever I go to 125 Street in Harlem, I would either eat at Golden Krust or Manna's Restaurant, sometimes the fast food joints. However, my all-time favourite is the Spicy Jamaican Beef Patty from Golden Krust which is flaky pastry filled with spicy ground beef, they are simply delicious. I have also tried their Curried Chicken Combo and Sliced Fish Combo but have to say I prefer the Curried Chicken cos the curry is very fragrant and the chicken simply melts in your mouth.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

NYC - Movie - I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

Today I had to run to the post office to pick up some registered mail so since I was out, I decided to walk around the shopping place near my home then I got bored and decided to go to 125st at Harlem, walk walk walk also sian so I went to watch 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry' at Magic Johnson Theater where the hubby and I usually watch movies. The movie itself was ok lah, it's cute howeverI thought it would be funnier. It's basically about 'do not try to cheat the US goverment', 'gay issues' and 'friendship'. I think Rob Schneider's character as a whacky Asian minister in Niagara Falls who performed the wedding ceremony for Chuck (Adam Sandler) and Larry (Kevin James) was quite funny though some people may find it offensive (c'mon it's only a movie!), his 'Asian' accent made me laugh especially when he kept prounouncing Ring as Ling ... hahaha, so silly. The movie itself is nothing to rave about, I would give it 2 out of 5 stars and I am in a nice mood ... hahaha.

NYC - West Harlem - Make My Cake

After our nice lunch at African Kine Restaurant, we strolled down the block visiting a few small shops and ended up in Make My Cake, a very sweet and cute looking bakery cafe with lots of tempting and 'dangerous' looking cupcakes and cakes ... hahaha. I use the word 'dangerous' because everything looks soooooooo good and you will want to eat every single piece and may end up with sugar shock ... Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket. We hung out there for cakes and drinks and of course continued our chit-chatting. I got the Chocolate Mousse for the hubby and for myself I had the croissant since I am not into sugary stuff, it was nice and fluffy, I liked it.

NYC - West Harlem - Africa Kine

Great company, delicious food, interesting conversations, lots of fun and laughters, what more than a better way to spend my Saturday afternoon with Lyn, Catie, Felice and Reese, all who have bubbly and fun personalities. We ate at Africa Kine Restaurant in West Harlem and the food was really good and tasty. It is a nice place to hang out, the decor is simple with lots of African paintings, it is also quite spacious. The service is slow but what I heard that is normal ... ha! The service staff are very very friendly. Now over to the food, it was my first time eating African cuisine, definitely a nice change. Catie, Felice and myself had the Thiebu djeun which is fish stewed in tomato sauce with eggplant, carrots, cassava & white cabbage, served over exotic rice, that is their tradintional dish and it was delicious. Lyn had the Grilled chicken with seasoned vegetable rice and Reese had Savory lamb with seasoned vegetable rice. The lamb looked really good but since I don't eat lamb/mutton/goat dishes, I will never find out how tasty the dish is .... heh heh. I had the Ginger Beer, a non-alcoholic drink which seems to have a mixture of ginger, water, sugar, water and have a tinge of citrus taste. The pricing is very reasonable and the portions are big. Everyone definitely had a good enjoyable time.

After church today, I decided to have soul food today so I made my way from the Bronx to Harlem and went to Manna's restaurant for their wide variety of buffet, I was spoilt for choice, being a greedy piggy, I wanted to eat EVERYTHING and I mean it ... haha but to avoid embarrassing myself ... hee hee ... I only picked up a few items of mac & cheese, collard green, okra aka ladies finger + corn in tomato sauce, oxtail, swordfish and souther fried chicken, they were really yummy ... BURP!
